My name is Jackie Brown, and I live with my husband Martin in MidUlster, Northern Ireland. I was born blind, and grew up in London before moving to Scotland where I have a grown-up son and two gorgeous little grandsons. I came to live in the beautiful part of the UK that is Northern Ireland in 2010.

I have many hobbies and interests, my main passions being writing and using technology. I am a proficient Braillist, and use a raft of specialist and mainstream equipment to maintain my independence.

I have several qualifications including a Masters Degree in Creative Writing with the Open University. I am also a published author of Braille On Display, the third edition of which was published in October 2024. You can download a free copy of the book from the

In October 2022, I joined the Royal National Institute of Blind People, (RNIB) as a Technology For Life Coordinator for Northern Ireland. But following a major restructure at the organisation, I now work for RNIB three days a week as a Digital Skills Engagement and Events Officer.

Working part-time has now given me the opportunity to also work for myself as an assistive technology trainer and consultant. I set up my own small business in the autumn of 2024. In addition to my passion for writing and using technology, I enjoy music, reading, sport, and playing a huge part in the lives of my two little grandsons, Ezra and Isaac.
